Detailed 14 Day Best of South Africa Tour Plan

Day 1

Arrive at O R Tambo International Airport.  Drive through Johannesburg City Centre. For a magnificent view from the 50th floor we visit the Carlton Centre.  Visit The Constitutional Hill where the story of South Africa’s turbulent past and its extraordinary transition to democracy is told.  Visit Sandton City and Nelson Mandela Square.

Overnight in Sandton. 

Day 2

Drive through Pretoria and visit the Voortrekker Monument.  Travel to Cullinan, a picturesque little village, famous for the biggest diamond ever discovered in 1905. Today the mine still produces 5 000 carats of diamonds per day and supplies 25 % of the world’s gem quality diamonds.

‘Journey of a Diamond’  tour is an exciting guided motorized tour through the Cullinan Diamond Mine.  Travel to Mpumalanga, one of South Africa’s top tourist destinations

Overnight in Hazyview, Meals included:  Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 3, Option 1:

Early departure for a full day safari in Kruger National Park, one of the largest controlled nature reserves in the world.

Overnight in Hazyview.  Meals included:  breakfast, dinner and full day safari.

Day 3, Option 2:

Depart to a private game lodge in the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve, adjacent to Kruger National Park for the ultimate safari experience.

Overnight at Private Game Lodge, Sabi Sands.  Included:  Breakfast, Lunch,  high tea, dinner and two safaris.

Day 4

Travel to the Kingdom of Swaziland, a tiny country with a big heart and warm, friendly people.  It is a kingdom which embraces and upholds its unique and ancient traditions.

Overnight Mbabane, Swaziland.  Meals included:  Breakfast. 

Day 5

Travel back to South Africa, crossing the border into Kwa-Zulu Natal,  kingdom of the Zulu people.

Visit a traditional Zulu Cultural Village

Overnight in St Lucia. Meals included: Breakfast and  lunch. 

Day 6

Boat trip on the St Lucia estuary, the largest in Africa, to view hippos, crocodiles, mangrove swamps, prolific birdlife and the vegetated sand dunes.

Travel along the Indian Ocean to Durban. Tour of Durban City.

Overnight in Durban.  Meals included: Breakfast. 

Day 7

Transfer to Durban International Airport for a flight to George.  We are now on South Africa’s glorious Garden Route, one of the most magnificent, awe-inspiring stretches of land in South Africa. Visit the coastal village Knysna.

Overnight in Plettenberg Bay.  Meals included: Breakfast.

Day 8

A day to enjoy the beauty of this region.  A visit to Tsitsikamma National Park where the famous Storms River suspension Bridge span the river mouth.

Overnight in Plettenberg Bay.  Meals included: Breakfast and lunch. 

Optional: boat-based whale watching in season.

Day 9

Travel to the Klein Karoo via the Wilderness lakes district and over the magnificent Outeniqua Mountain Pass.  Visit the Congo Caves and an Ostrich Farm.

Overnight in Oudtshoorn. Meals included Breakfast and dinner.

Day 10

Depart for Gordons Bay via the Tradouw Pass and Hermanus.   Hermanus, formerly a fishing village is now a thriving holiday resort .  Enjoy the spectacular drive along the Atlantic Ocean to Gordons Bay.

Overnight in Gordons Bay.  Meals included: Breakfast. 

Day 11

Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve with its dramatic scenery and fascinating history.  The reserve was established for the protection of the unique plant life and forms part of the Cape.  Cape Point is rumoured to be the meeting place of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans.  At Boulders Beach is an opportunity to see the most remarkable of the mainland colonies of endangered African Penguins.

Overnight in Cape Town.  Meals included: Breakfast and lunch.

Day 12

This morning we visit Table Mountain, one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature and World Heritage site.  Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden is one of the world’s great botanical institutions. Visit the world famous Cape Town Waterfront and walk through historical Cape Town.

Overnight in Cape Town.  Meals included: Breakfast.

Day 13

A trip through the famous Cape Wine Region to experience the fine wines and beautiful wine region scenery.  We visit the town of Franschoek with its picturesque main street.  Stellenbosch is nationally and internationally acclaimed as the ‘must see’ town.  It has charm and beauty.

Overnight in Cape Town.  Meals included: Breakfast.

Day 14

Time at leisure for some last minute shopping before your transfer to the airport.  End of a wonderful experience on The Best of South Africa Tour.
