Detailed Garden Route and Klein Karoo Tour Plan

Morning hike on Robberg Nature Reserve and National Monument. Here we find a fine example of how plants and animals adapt to the interacting influence of land and sea.
Visit Tsitsikamma National Park, encompassing a marine reserve made up of 80 km of coastline. The visitor is offered magnificent scenery, beautiful forest walk and a small beach. The famous Storms River suspension Bridge spans the river mouth.
Overnight in Plettenberg Bay. Plettenberg Bay is the jewel of the Garden Route, tranquil and rather special.
A difficult choice to make between relaxing on the beautiful, protected beach of Plettenberg Bay or enjoying one of the many activities available on the Garden Route and Klein Karoo Tour:
On the mountain side of the Keurbooms River Bridge, an awe inspiring river gorge is enfolded in the beauty of the natural forest. You can enjoy the experience of canoeing up the 7 kilometers of river.
On the Garden Route you can experience the thrill of driving your own quad bike through beautiful scenery while having the adventure of a lifetime.
The Tsitsikamma Canopy Tour takes place in the magnificent Tsitsikamma indigenous rainforest. Many of the platforms are built around giant Outeniqua Yellowwood trees that are up to 700 years old! Standing within the crown of these giants is an experience of a lifetime.
Plettenberg Bay enjoys abundant marine life, and it is one of the best places in South Africa, if not in the world, to see whales, dolphins and seals.
Between late May and November, Plettenberg Bay’s waters host a great number of Southern Right whales, and in November many Humpbacks move through the Bay.
Mossel Bay in the Garden Route is home to an abundance of shark species including the intriguing Great White Shark, making it the perfect location for Shark Cage Diving.
Deep Sea Fishing
Plettenberg Bay offers the most scenic fishing in South Africa. Cob, Grunter and Sharks are just some of the species to tempt you!
The highlight of the area is undoubtedly the rivers, beaches and the bay with its ideal conditions for all facets of watersports, including sailing in the safe waters of the Bay.
Twice daily, visitors go on an unforgettable forest horse ride, accompanied by experienced guides. From beginners to experienced riders can enjoy the lovely Knysna forest.
Plettenberg Bay Country Club has an 18 hole par 72 golf course set in a private nature reserve as well as 2 magnificent bowling greens and 4 all-weather tennis courts.
The Goose Valley Golf Club is situated in pristine surroundings, only 4 km from Plettenberg Bay, bordering on the Keurbooms Lagoon. This magnificent golf estate offers a splendid Gary Player designed 72 pars, 18-hole signature golf course in the heart of the Garden Route.
The lush indigenous forest trails and spectacular scenery of the Plettenberg Bay area make this part of the Garden Route a favourite mountain biking destination.
The Crags Elephant Sanctuary sets itself apart from anything that the Garden Route and Klein Karoo Tour has previously had to offer in terms of elephant interaction. All programmes are fully guided and guest numbers are limited to ensure personal attention and maximum elephant interaction for each guest which makes for a truly enriching experience.
Plettenberg Bay Game Reserve is the biggest game reserve in the Southern Cape, with more than 2200 ha spread out across the hills above the scenic Garden Route coastline. It offers an exciting child-friendly safari experience in a non-malaria area with an excellent chance of spotting four of Africa’s Big Five – buffalo, lion, leopard and rhino.
Overnight in Plettenberg Bay.
Enjoy some of the adventures available or explore the unique and quaint coastal town Knysna, one of the most beautiful of the coastal towns.
Tour to Featherbed Nature Reserve: return ferry trip on the Knysna Lagoon to the Western Head. 4 x 4 vehicle & trailer drive up the headland onto the Reserve, stopping at spectacular viewpoints. The Outeniqua Mountain Pass, the fifth pass to be built, easily takes the traveller across the formidable barrier of the Outeniqua Mountains.
The Klein Karoo is the only place where succulent karoo, fynbos and sub-tropical thicket interface, resulting in a wonderful mosaic of plant life. Enjoy the brilliantly coloured sandstone cathedral while travelling the 13 km long road through Meiringspoort which crosses the Groot River 30 times. A short footpath leads to a waterfall which cascades 55 m into crystal clear rock pools.
Overnight in Oudtshoorn
Depart for Cape Town on a truly splendid and scenic drive. A coffee stop in the artistic small village of Barrydale gives you some unique shopping opportunities. On the beautiful Tradouw Pass is an opportunity to view an abundant display of Aloes. This pass is so craggy and arduous that the mind boggles as to just how the pass originated. It is breath-taking! The winding course of The Tradouw River is followed down the gorge.
The popular resort town of Hermanus, situated between mountain and sea, has gained world-wide recognition as the world’s foremost land based whale watching destination.
