Detailed 15 Day Tour Plan of the South Africa Botanical Tour
Day 1: (100 km)
Arrival at O R Tambo International Airport. Pretoria City tour and transfer to Cullinan.
Cullinan is a picturesque little village, famous for the biggest diamond ever discovered in 1905, steeped in history, with quant buildings and tree lined streets. Today the mine still produces 5000 carats of diamonds per day and supplies 25% of the world’s gem quality diamonds.

Day 2: (354 km)
Tour of Cullinan Diamond Mine., an exciting guided motorized tour. Travel to Mpumalanga, one of South Africa’s top tourist destinations.
Overnight Hazyview. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 3: Option 1
Full day safari in the world-renowned Kruger National Park. largest wildlife sanctuary in South Africa and one of the largest controlled nature reserves in the world.

Day 3, Option 2
Transfer to a private game lodge in Sabi Sands Game Reserve, adjacent to Kruger National Park, for the ultimate safari experience.

Day 4: (370 km)
Depart for Johannesburg via the scenic beauty of the Escarpment.
The Blyde River Canyon, third largest in the world, is protected by a 26 000 ha nature reserve. There are superb views, with the finest of them overlooking The Three Rondavels and God’s Window.
Bourke’s Luck Potholes is a dramatic landscape of strange pools and cauldrons of rock. On route we will stop at the quaint little village Dullstroom, known for its flyfishing.

Day 5: (100 + 100 km)
Transfer to O R Tambo International Airport for a domestic flight to George. Travel to Plettenberg Bay. This is South Africa’s magnificent Garden Route, one of the most awe-inspiring stretches of land in South Africa.
In the afternoon we will take a hike to enjoy the scenery on Robberg Reserve, a National Monument, where we find a fine example of how plants and animals adapt to the interacting influence of land and sea.

Visit Tsitsikamma National Park which encompasses a marine reserve made up of 80 km of coastline and offers the visitor splendid scenery, walks and a small beach. The famous Storms River suspension Bridge spans the river mouth.
Optional activity: Boat-based whale watching in Plettenberg Bay.

Day 7: (536 km)
Hike in the 1800 ha Fernkloof Nature Reserve where 1474 different species of plants have been identified. Enjoy the spectacular drive along the Atlantic Ocean from Hermanus to Gordons Bay.

Day 8: (98 km)
Full day Peninsula Tour and Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. The reserve was established for the protection of the unique plant life of the Cape Floral Kingdom.
The Cape Floral Kingdom, a World Heritage Site, is one of the oldest, the smallest and richest in the world and the only floral kingdom to be contained within one country. 9600 species of plants, of which 70% is endemic, in only 0.04% of the earth’s land surface.

Hike across the top of Table Mountain, one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature. An estimated 2,200 species of plants are confined to Table Mountain. The beautiful Kirstenbosch gardens cover an area of 528 hectares with 36 hectares of cultivated garden. The gardens are a celebration of South African flora. Visit the world famous Cape Town Waterfront and walk through historical Cape Town.

Day 10: (467 km)
Travel along the west coast and through the West Coast National Park. During spring the Park is embroidered with a tapestry of multi-hued flowers. Drive along and through the Cederberg Wilderness Area with its dramatic peaks, precipitous, orange rock walls and bizarre rock formations.

Day 11: (280 km)
Taking in the treasures of the area we will view the Glacial Rock Striations which date back 280 million years and the wild flower reserve to see some of the 500 000 endemic bulbous plant species, hopefully some of them in bloom. We will visit the Quiver Tree forest and Waterfall .

Day 12: (230 km)
A wonderful guided interpretative tour of a Rooibos Tea Farm and learn more about the indigenous flora. The Red Bush from which the world famous Rooibos Tea is produced, is only to be found in the Cederberg Mountains.
We take a beautiful drive via Ceres to the Breede River Valley, largest wine and fruit growing region, with its magnificent mountain scenery and breath-taking views.

Day 13: (120 km)
In the morning visit the Karoo Desert National Botanical Garden, the only true succulent garden in the southern hemisphere. Of the world’s approximately 10,000 succulent species, nearly half originate from Southern Africa.
A trip through the famous Cape Wine Region and experience the finest wines. We visit the town of Franschoek with its picturesque main street showcasing antique stores, art galleries and street cafes.

Stellenbosch is nationally and internationally acclaimed as the ‘must see’ town. This charming, unique little town has a rich history and many interesting things to do and see. Visit Stellenbosch University Botanical Gardens.
We will be tasting some more of South Africa’s excellent wines.
